SOLAR FARM AND BATTERY STORAGE DEVELOPMENT UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED BY FIFE COUNCIL
17 Mar, 2022

Renewable Connections, one of the UK’s leading solar and battery developers, is celebrating its first ever Scottish consent. The 25MW Strathruddie Solar Farm and 20MW battery storage development by Kinglassie in Fife, was approved unanimously by Fife Council at committee on the 16th March.

  • First Scottish solar farm and battery storage consent for Renewable Connections
  • Solar farm will generate up to 25 megawatts (MW) of home grown energy, enough for over 7,000 homes
  • 20MW battery storage facility part of the Strathruddie development

Renewable Connections, one of the UK’s leading solar and battery developers, is celebrating its first ever Scottish consent.

The 25MW Strathruddie Solar Farm and 20MW battery storage development by Kinglassie in Fife, was approved unanimously by Fife Council at committee on the 16th March.  The project has been developed in partnership with European Energy (EE) and will have a lifespan of up to forty years.

Strathruddie Solar Farm will make a meaningful contribution to Fife’s energy needs by delivering green energy to over 7,000 homes annually. Over the lifetime of the project, it will save an estimated 440,000 tonnes of CO22 from being emitted.

John Lindsay, Development Manager for Scotland at Renewable Connections said: “We are delighted to have achieved our first ever consent in Scotland.  These consents aren’t just a win for Renewable Connections but also the Scottish consumer. We need to deploy more home grown energy, in order to achieve more sustainable energy pricing and long term energy security.  Solar is one of the cleanest, lowest cost forms of energy available and can be quickly deployed.”

The scheme will cover 47 hectares (115 acres) of land at Strathruddie Farm and construction of the solar farm will involve the installation of photovoltaic (PV) panels, which convert sunlight directly into renewable electricity.
